Read on to discover the must-see attractions, our storied culinary landscape, and why The Adolphus serves as the perfect sanctuary to rest and regroup between your adventures.

Must-See Attractions

The State Fair of Texas offers a sprawling collection of experiences that cater to every inclination, from the spirited roar of the stadium to the glow of the Texas Star Ferris Wheel.

Icons of the Fair

You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see Big Tex, the 55-foot-tall cowboy who has greeted fairgoers since the 1950s. For a more elevated perspective, the Texas Star Ferris Wheel carries you twenty stories above the grounds, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the Dallas skyline. The Midway itself is a vibrant collection of over 70 rides and games, ranging from the nostalgic 1914 Dentzel Carousel to the high-adrenaline heights of the Texas Tower.

Sporting Traditions

The fairgrounds serve as a grand arena for world-class athletics, most notably the Red River Showdown. This historic football rivalry between the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma draws over 100,000 fans to the Cotton Bowl Stadium each year. For soccer enthusiasts, the State Fair Clásico highlights professional women’s matches, continuing the tradition of hosting record-breaking sporting events in the heart of Fair Park.

Livestock & Agriculture

To appreciate the fair’s agricultural roots, a stroll through the Livestock Shows is highly recommended. Here, exhibitors from across the state showcase their finest animals, continuing a tradition of excellence that dates back over a century. Visitors can explore the Livestock Birthing Barn to learn about different breeds and agricultural heritage.

Performances & Parades

The Chevrolet Main Stage features a diverse lineup of live music, from country and rock to regional Tejano artists. For a unique family-friendly experience, ¡Fiestas de Marionetas! features 85 handmade puppets in a vibrant village setting. And in the evening, don’t miss the Starlight Parade, a bright procession of large floats and performers that winds through the park.

Legendary State Fair of Texas Food

At the State Fair of Texas, the food is as much a destination as the attractions themselves. The Fair has earned a prestigious national reputation for its innovation in “fried novelty” cuisine, blending local traditions with experimental flavors.

Fair Food Classics

For many, a visit is not complete without paying homage to the quintessential staples of the Fair. The Fletcher’s Original Corny Dog remains the gold standard, a tradition that began at Fair Park in 1942. Other fan favorites include giant smoked turkey legs, golden funnel cakes, and a vast array of deep-fried delicacies.

The Big Tex Choice Awards

Since 2005, the Big Tex Choice Awards have turned the Fair into a premier destination for culinary creativity. Each year, vendors compete for titles like “Best Taste” and “Most Creative.” Past winners have included unique items such as Fried Beer and Fried Peaches and Cream. For your 2026 visit, check the latest list of winners to try the newest award-winning snacks, which have recently featured Brisket & Brew Stuffed Pretzels and Dubai Chocolate Funnel Cake Fries.

Logistics & Tips

Navigating the 277 acres of Fair Park is easier with a bit of planning. The State Fair of Texas is a massive undertaking, so arriving prepared ensures you can focus on the fun rather than the logistics.

Getting to Fair Park

The Adolphus is ideally located in Downtown Dallas, providing a seamless launchpad for your fair visit. You can reach the fairgrounds in about 10–15 minutes by car or rideshare, though you should expect peak traffic during weekends and game days. For a stress-free journey, we recommend the DART Green Line. From nearby Akard or St. Paul stations, the rail takes you directly to the Fair Park Station entrance in approximately 12–15 minutes. If using rideshare, use the Haskell Avenue entrance for the most efficient drop-off and pick-up.

State Fair of Texas Policies

To ensure a safe and quick entry, the State Fair enforces a clear bag policy. Please note that prohibited items include alcohol, glass containers, large hard-sided coolers, and weapons of any kind. There are no lockers on-site, so double-check your gear before heading to the gates. Learn more about the Fair’s safety and security policies here.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Stay Hydrated: The Texas heat is legendary; carry a refillable water bottle (non-glass) and utilize the hydration stations throughout the park.
  • Download the Map: Having a digital fairgrounds map on your phone will help you locate Big Tex, specific food vendors, and the Chevrolet Main Stage.
  • Wear Comfortable Shoes: Between the Midway and the livestock barns, you will likely walk several miles.
